As a millennial, I can confirm that I never answer numbers I don’t know. And occasionally, I don’t even answer the ones I do. That’s why I have to remind myself that there was actually a time where we all enjoyed using landlines and talking on the phone for hours on end. (At least I did as a kid and teen)
Phone calls have also been intertwined with horror for decades. From spirits using them to warn others to slashers utilizing them to build tension, whenever a phone rings in horror, you know something’s up.
That’s why I’ve gathered five of my favorite (and five of the most infamous) calls in horror history.
- “I’m your boyfriend now, Nancy!” call from A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
- “What’s your favorite scary movie?” call from Scream
- “Seven Days” call from The Ring
- “It’s coming from inside the house” call from When A Stranger Calls (1979)
- Every single call from Black Christmas (1974)
