31 Day Horror Challenge: 11. Underrated – The Guest

I absolutely love The Guest, and if given the opportunity, I’ll talk your ear off about it. It’s like Halloween meets Terminator. The soundtrack is BITCHIN’. And, the Dan Stevens bathroom scene – WOOF. That being said, I still think it’s super underrated, and it’s an absolute must see. I also have a few other movies I’d like to throw out as being underrated 👀

Some of them are necessarily Oscar-worthy, but they’re fun, and I enjoy them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

American Psycho 2: I KNOW, I KNOW. But hear me out. If you take out the American Psycho connection and make this a standalone movie (this is quickly becoming my catchphrase), I think it would be a better movie. Mila Kunis is great, and the twist is great. I think whole Patrick Bateman connection is super flimsy, but if you made it a generic situation, it would really kick it up a notch.

Tamara: I sincerely love this movie. Again, it’s not necessarily *good* (It’s basically the Great Value version of The Rage: Carrie 2), but I really enjoy it. Some of the kills are super hard to watch, and you’ll be slightly rooting for Tamara by the end. To throw out my friendly, neighborhood warning, there are some non-PC/questionable moments in here, so know that going in.

The Hamiltons: I’ve already written my love letter to the 8 Films to Die For, but this is the movie that made me fall in love with them to begin with. I love how they save the big reveal for the end, and it’s just good ol’ fashioned, low budget horror good time. I also just found out there was a sequel that I picked up from Dollar Tree, so I can’t wait to give it a watch as well.

The Houses October Built: For the love of all that’s holy, don’t watch the second one because it undoes all of the creepiness of the first. But this one is *chef’s kiss.* I think it’s extremely well done for how low budget it was, and it’s a nice little addition to the found footage genre.

Repo! The Genetic Opera: I know this one has a nice little cult following, but I’ve seen it a million times. I’m a sucker for a musical, and I love how campy and gory it is. Plus, the soundtrack is INCREDIBLE. Can we also get Paris Hilton back to horror please?
