As someone who works in the service industry, I am very nice and polite. I like helping people. I enjoy showing customers my favorite things in the store. I am open to joking around. However, I am not down to be harassed.
My friends, your servers and cashiers and sales associates work very hard. We have bills to pay, and we are just trying to get by. We smile through the bad days. We work doubles. We get yelled at for things that are not our fault.
Do not try to hit on your service industry peeps if we are clearly not receptive. Do not be disrespectful and make comments about our bodies (this goes for everything always, by the way.) Do not make innuendoes by using the products we sell. Do not use tips to proposition us. Do not make derogatory or degrading statements about your server.
Treat us with respect. Apologize if someone in front of you was rude, and we are clearly shaken. Just act like we’re human because we ARE.
We make your coffees and your food and help you get the things you want and need. Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
